When you have your tasks associated with time, it becomes easy for you to know how your day looks like. You know what you have to do and also you are well aware when you will do it.

#3. Reduces thinking time

While doing one task you already know what’s next so it helps you to be aware of what’s going to happen further.

#4. Easy track on your performance

For example you wanted to edit your blog from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. but instead you scrolled through your Instagram and wasted all your time. Now you know what mistakes you are making and where you need to improve.

#5. You learn to say “NO” to what’s not important

When you schedule you learn to prioritize. Analyze what is it that deserves space in your day. Instead of scheduling web series for 2 hours ask yourself have you scheduled your self care? And if not observe how bad your priorities are. This way you learn to say “NO” to what’s not important.

I always speak about going physical over digital when it comes to planning and scheduling. But this time I would highly recommend you to go digital for time blocking. One of the most used tools for time blocking is Google Calendar. It is such an amazing tool and can do wonders for you. I have been using this from past 1.5 month now and my life is a lot more different now.

Benefits of Google Calendar over physical planner:

#1. It helps you to plan you daily rituals for the month in one go. For example you do reading from 8 a.m to 9 a.m. and that is something you do daily. So you can easily select the option to repeat it daily and less effort goes in rewriting.

#2. Changing your schedule becomes easy. If due to any reason there are changes in your plan you can always edit neatly without creating any mess.

#3. You can color code your activities and it looks much more interesting.

#4. A reminder is sent to your phone for every single task of the day and it makes things unforgettable. (You need to install it on your phone as well for this to happen)

#5. It allows you to create multiple calendars and makes it is easy to plan.

Reasons people fail at time Blocking

There are some mistakes to avoid when it comes to time blocking so that you end up having a great experience.

#1. Being too harsh on yourself

Do not schedule too much in one day. Think wisely and be aware of the time you need to finish one task. Do not overload yourself with heavy tasks in one day specially if you are starting out.

Moreover, be easy on yourself if things don’t work out as planned. It takes time to build a routine that suits you, you will improve with time. So do no get negative, things will become better with time.

#2. Not having breaks in your schedule

Not having breaks is the prime reason people fail in time blocking. It is recommended to work for 90 minutes and take 30 minutes break after that. Having breaks in between improves your productivity level and saves you from getting exhausted.

#3. Doing wrong tasks at wrong time

Schedule your tasks according to your energy level during the day. It is recommended to schedule difficult tasks during the start of your day. If a task requires more energy, do it as a first thing in the morning.

#4. Not having buffer time

Always have free space in your schedule, it helps you to rebuild your day. If due to some reason you get an urgent work and you need to go out, make sure that task goes to the buffer space you have created for yourself. This way your whole plan doesn’t come down and you are good to go.

#5. Sitting to work distracted

Avoid sitting with distractions. Leave everything behind when you sit to work. Focus 100% on your work for those 90 minutes and you will be amazed to see the results.
